Tone Wall (2018)

In Spring 2017, a private collection of underwater recordings was made public. The earliest recording from 1953 is of two humpback whales off the coast of Bermuda. The recording begins with the humpback whales singing the tones Eb and G. Using a technique called Cymatics, the nodal patterns of the whales’ song are translated into visual patterns, which are subsequently cast as ceramic tiles.
