Tonewood Hills (2012)

Malmö

5 pieces of hand carved, sanded German spruce wood, coated with white shellac.
Individual sizes, between 30 cm and 55 cm.

The shapes and carvings of these pieces are made to mimic the shapes to be found in the landscape, the tree line in the German Alps, where these spruce grow. The carvings also make reference to the use of this wood as resonating material for the construction of fine musical instruments. In this construction process, even minute differences in form influence the resonating quality of each instrument.
